Crimson Death Space Marine Army #1 - Citadel 28mm Dreadnought Armour

The Crimson Death are my home brew Space Marine chapter. This is a project started back in 1987, whereupon I had most of an army painted, but something possessed me to sell many of the foot troops. It will be a slow-burner project - I have most of the models, but few are painted as yet.

I picked this up very cheaply from the Sheffield triples bring and buy one year. I'd never stripped paint from plastic before, and it was really heavily caked on with this. I soaked it in dettol for a while, and had at it with an old toothbrush and a scalpel, but it was never going to return to its original state.

I pressed on, but had to paint in a lot of the lost detail. I think he's turned out ok, considering - certainly good enough to use on the table.

28mm Spartan Greek Army WIP02

Last weekend was the Sheffield Triples wargames show, so it was a chance to pick up some of the bits I needed for this army.

I needed some tufts for my bases, which look quite nice when applied

Minifigs 25mm Thracian and generic peltasts

I chose MiniNatur moss (early fall) and short tufts (late fall) to simulate the sparse Greek countryside.

I picked up some other foundry Greeks at the show, though these are character figures really. 

Although, if I base them up on 2p coins, I can add them to sabots like this;

My main purchase was some Victrix peltasts, javelin men and slingers:

56 figures in total, and I picked them up at nearly a fiver off list price, which was nice.

Other than that, I have 'finished' one of the unarmoured Vendel hoplites. Still really not very happy with it though. I'll get the spears and shields on them all, and they will have to do.

Laserburn project WIP10 - terrain and more

So I've done some work on the terrain pieces I bought at Salute. A quick raid on my bits boxes and the four cheap Amera buildings got some tech.

They've been undercoated with Halford's grey primer and then dry-brushed with white in this picture. Next, I used a cheap Americana (read folk art) yellow ochre to provide the basic imperial khaki base colour...

You can also see the matchbox imperial ground attack aerodyne getting the same treatment in the corner there. Here's how that one got to that state too.

Other recent acquisitions have been some transports for the redemptionist forces in the form of republic gunships:

They're 1:172, which is more 10mm than 15mm, but I think they will work. A snip @ £4.99 from The Works (a UK based retailer that sells off bankrupt stock). More on those later. 

I'm still looking for the right decals for my other vehicles, but I'll update you all when they get sorted.

It's Sheffield Triples in a couple of weeks, so I'm hoping to find something suitable there.

Citadel 25mm C14 Snotling and C23 Mutant Ogre - Kirby and Gremp

A little bit of a diorama that I recall getting a prize for at Sheffield Triples back in the day.

The base is inexpertly constructed from two 40mm slottabases.

Apparently this Ogre is the rare one of the range, as it constantly destroyed moulds. It's another Jes Goodwin sculpt.
